Let's tick another off our Curated Ride Challenge list as we hit the BEST pizza spots in CT!
Colony Grill is the home of the original hot oil bar pie * (yessss, we recommend this! ) first offered in Stamford, but now in several locations.
We are riding to the Norwalk Colony Grill where they serve up their thin-crust classics just like the Mother-ship.
This will be a nice backroads ride, with just a bit of downtown Norwalk as we near our destination.
Afterward, you can ride highways (I-95 or Merritt) home, or side roads; the choice is yours.
Meet: 10:15AM location tbd
KSU: 10:30AM
Leader: Bill A, RC
* FUN FACT! Back in 1935, during the Great Depression, the Irish owners of Colony Grill employed Italian and Eastern-European chefs who proudly wanted to share their recipes from their homelands with the bar patrons, but needed to figure out how to fit a pizza tray on the narrow Colony bar top. The solution: the "bar pie"…extremely thin crust, smaller in diameter than a traditional pizza, and not too much cheese or sauce so that slices can be easily managed with one hand, fittingly leaving the other hand free to hold a glass. Eventually, across the decades, the hot oil bar pie became so popular that all the other Colony menu items faded away, as did the need for a grill.
